Earl K. Ziegler was born on March 4, 1929 in Sheridan, Pennsylvania to Abraham and Rhoda (nee Keller) Ziegler. Ziegler graduated from Elizabethtown College in 1951 with a bachelor’s in Liberal Arts. In August 1951, he married his wife, Vivian Zug Snyder. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Elizabethtown College, Ziegler attended the Bethany Biblical Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. Later, in 1982, Ziegler would graduate from Lancaster Theological Seminary to complete his theological education. Between 1966-1983, Ziegler served as a member of the Elizabethtown College Board of Trustees. Over the course of several decades, he would also hold positions as a pastor in various congregations throughout the Atlantic Northeast District of the Church of the Brethren. In 1960, he became the first paid pastor at the Black Rock Church of the Brethren. In the 1970s into the 1980s, Ziegler was pastor to the Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren. Between 1989-1999, Ziegler served as pastor to the Lampeter Church of the Brethren. For some time until 2006, he was interim pastor for the East Cocalico Church of the Brethren. In between, Ziegler gave sermons to a number of congregations and spoke at Annual Assemblies and District Conferences in Kansas, Maryland, Indiana, and Florida. Though Ziegler lived in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, he also traveled both within the country and abroad, notably to the Dominican Republic, to give sermons and participate in missions trips.
