Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection spans twelve boxes and includes information on a multitude of Christian denominations and organizations, detailed records of Amish settlements through family trees, census information, maps of Pennsylvania and the United States, research done for different books and articles written by Steve Scott, as well as audiovisual materials and files, including recorded speeches.
Collection Historical Note
Stephen Scott (1948-2011) worked as Research and Administrative Associate at the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies from 1997 until he passed away in 2011.
Scott published many books on Amish and Mennonite groups, including Plain Buggies (1981), Why Do They Dress That Way? (1986), The Amish Wedding and Other Special Occasions of the Old Order Communities (1988), Living Without Electricity (1990), Amish Houses and Barns (1992), and An Introduction to Old Order and Conservative Mennonite Groups (1996). He also is credited with multiple articles in periodicals and entries in reference books.

- This series spans three boxes, flat file storage, and one card box and contains maps, research materials, census data, directories, and posters relating to Amish settlements and population. Materials cover multiple locations, mainly Lancaster County and Pennsylvania as a whole. Other locations include Canada, South and Central American countries, and multiple other US states. Box 13 contains cards on Amish settlements (founding date, ministers, origins) as well as notes on Amish and Mennonite groups.
